Appendix: Using the Beckman J2-21 Centrifuge

  1. Locate the power toggle on the far left of the display and flip up to on.
  2. Place desired rotor in the centrifuge. Note: the lid will not tighten if the rotor is positioned improperly. Close the lid and fill out the log located on top of the lid.
  3. Set the desired speed by turning the SPEED dial.
  4. Set the desired time by turning the TIME dial. Note: when setting time, go past the desired time and then come back to it to ensure proper setting.
  5. Set the desired deceleration by turing the BRAKE dial. For most cases, the brake should be set at MAX.
  6. Set the desired temperature by turning the SET dial. The temperature has two setting: actual temperature and overtemp. The centrifuge will not start if the overtemp light is on.
  7. Start the run by pressing the START button. A green light will come on.
  8. When the time has expired, the green light on the STOP button will come on. You may also stop the run at any point by pressing the STOP button. Turn off, leave door open, and return rotor to cold room.
  9. Notify service representative if the BRUSHES light comes on.
